Olivin was licensed as a high yielding green pea variety with premium human consumption qualities.

Plant Characteristics:

  • Yield potentials as high as yellow pea varieties.
  • First green pea to close the historic yield gap between yellow and green peas.
  • Medium vined (60-80 cm), full-leafed variety.
  • Has consistantly demonstrated drought tolerance providing substantial yeild advantage in low rain fall seasons.
  • Regionally adapted to all prairie regions.
  • Low pod shattering levels.
  • Low seed coat breakage.
  • Seedling frost tolerance permits early seeding (late April and early May).
  • Full-leaved trait provides good levels of organic matter and nitrogen levels in the residue.
  • 90 day maturity is typical for normal weather conditions.

Seed Characteristics:

  • 270 grams per 1000 seed weight.
  • Low seed coat breakage.
  • Smooth, even-sized, round seed is prefered by the splitting and processing industry - premium human consumption quality.
  • Good bleaching levels (similar to green standards).
  • Average protein levels (22 - 24%).
  • Seeding rate: 140-160 lbs./acre (2.3 - 2.7 bu/acre).
